ABOUT US
Girls Leading Our World (GLOW) Armenia empowers girls and promotes leadership through education in a community of strong women. GLOW began as a Peace Corps initiative in Romania in 1995 and quickly spread to other Peace Corps countries. GLOW camps have been held in Armenia since 2008. GLOW Armenia is a collaboration between currently serving Peace Corps Volunteers and the Gyumri Youth Initiative Centre (YIC), with programmatic and networking support of Komitas Action Suisse-Armenie (KASA), Armenian Caritas' Gavar Little Prince Center, the Kapan Women's Resource Center NGO, and with financial support of the United States Embassy. These partnerships function through the GLOW Committee, which utilizes a framework of specialized sub-committees to ensure the successful realization of all aspects of this project from curriculum and after-camp support, to finance and PR.
In keeping with the global goals of GLOW, GLOW Armenia's main objectives are to foster the program participants’ leadership skills and to support them in their growth as they use those skills to pursue projects of their own choosing and design. With the support of YIC HGO, Peace Corps Armenia volunteers organize and lead GLOW camps, clubs, and community engagement projects to promote gender equality and empower young women from various socioeconomic backgrounds, abilities, and ages. The GLOW program creates a safe and supportive environment for learning, cultural exchange, individuality, creativity, leadership development, and fun.
This year GLOW Armenia hopes to revitalize the current curriculum and expand to new communities by implementing GLOW Day Camps, Overnight Camps, and Clubs throughout the country.
